The Nightmare

Incredulous, horrific, unpatriotic, scandalous!
Unpresidential, unprincipled, unpredictable!

We bear witness to the unconscionable.
Helpless, afraid, frozen in time.

The campaign, hard-fought and brutal,
Only one team fights fair.

Determined, we vote like never before,
A chance for redemption.

Ballots cast, counted and chronicled;
He’s fired; his time is up!

He throws a temper tantrum
Like a spoiled child.

Across the nation, crowds rejoice in jubilation;
Cowbells ring, horns blasts, voices sing.

We take a collective sigh of relief,
Inventory the damage.

How he exits the stage
Remains to be seen.

We awake from the frightful nightmare.
Dazed, weakened, and bruised.
