Created to serve — We rise to the occasion
— We Are Cake —
White
Yellow
Chocolate
Marbled
Sweet
Sour
And sometimes spicy
Our decorated exterior
Hides our flaws
Highlights our achievements
Celebrates our youth
But never fully masks our age
We are baked in a divine oven
And emerge diverse yet the same
Moist
Delicate
Airy
Dense
Uneven
Decadent
Rich
Bland
And sometimes burnt & broken
We heap generous pieces of ourselves
Upon the plates of those we love
Other pieces are gobbled up
Without permission
By society’s selfish pigs
And if we are lucky
When we need it
The tiny corner piece
We set aside for later
Is still there
